Summer & Autumn Festivals in Japan, July–November 2026

Before you plan： Dates marked as fixed repeat every year; the rest are as announced by the organisers as of late July 2026. A few are noted as estimates based on the usual pattern — always confirm on the official site before booking. Kyoto's Gion Matsuri, Osaka's Tenjin Matsuri and Hakata Gion Yamakasa all take place earlier in July and have already finished for 2026, so they are not listed here.

Nineteen festivals for visitors — with 2026 dates, the exact station to aim for, and travel times from the major terminals

Two kinds of traveller are served here. Culture marks festivals with deep historical substance; Leisure marks the loud, photogenic ones. Dates are as announced by organisers at the end of July 2026; entries marked fixed fall on the same calendar dates every year, and one estimate is flagged as such. Kyoto's Gion Matsuri, Osaka's Tenjin Matsuri and Hakata Gion Yamakasa all take place in early July and have already finished for 2026, so they are not listed.

Planning notes

•   Carry cash. Many stalls now accept IC cards, but ¥5,000–10,000 in small notes and coins will save you trouble.

•   August festivals run in 33–35 °C with high humidity. Water, salt tablets, a towel and a hat are not optional.

•   Coin lockers at the nearest station are full by mid-morning on festival days. Travel light or leave bags at your hotel.

•   Trains that run straight after a fireworks finale or a parade are severely crowded. Waiting 30–45 minutes gets you home sooner.

•   Drones are prohibited at every festival listed. Tripods are restricted or banned at most street venues.

•   Reconfirm every date on the organizer's official website before booking flights or accommodation.

本資料は二種類の旅行者を想定しています。歴史的背景の深い祭りには「カルチャー」、賑やかで写真映えする祭りには「レジャー」と表記しました。日程は2026年7月末時点で主催者が発表しているものです。「毎年固定」と記した祭りは毎年同じ日付で開催され、予測日程のものはその旨を明記しています。なお、京都の祇園祭、大阪の天神祭、博多祇園山笠はいずれも7月前半の開催で2026年分は終了しているため、本資料には含めていません。

東京	明治神宮 秋の大祭 Meiji Jingu Autumn Festival	11月1〜3日（流鏑馬は3日）	原宿（JR山手線）― 東京駅から約28分	カルチャー	雅楽・能・流鏑馬などを無料で奉納。一日で複数の古典芸能に触れられます。
大阪	住吉祭 Sumiyoshi Matsuri	7月30日〜8月1日	住吉大社（南海本線）徒歩3分 ― 大阪（梅田）から約30分	カルチャー	茅の輪をくぐる夏越祓の神事。最終日は神輿が大和川を渡って堺へ向かいます。
大阪	四天王寺 万灯供養 Shitennoji Manto Kuyo	8月9〜16日 18:30頃〜（予測日程）	四天王寺前夕陽ケ丘（谷町線）徒歩5分 ― 大阪駅から約20分	カルチャー	593年創建、京都より古い日本最初の官寺の境内に約1万基のロウソク灯籠が灯ります。
大阪	岸和田だんじり祭 Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri	9月19〜20日	岸和田（南海本線）― 大阪（梅田）から約45分、関西空港から約20分	レジャー／カルチャー	4トンの地車が減速せず直角に曲がる「やりまわし」。屋根の上では大工方が舞います。
大阪	なにわ淀川花火大会 Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks	10月17日 19:00〜20:00	十三（阪急）徒歩15分 ― 大阪梅田から約3分	レジャー	地元の協賛だけで支える約2万発。2025年から秋開催で、夏の花火ではありません。
京都	五山送り火 Gozan no Okuribi	8月16日 20:00点火	出町柳（京阪・叡山電鉄）― 京都駅から約20分	カルチャー	五つの山に文字・船・鳥居の炎。お盆の最終夜に先祖の霊を送り出す行事です。
京都	北野天満宮 ずいき祭 Zuiki Matsuri	10月1〜5日（還幸祭は4日）	北野白梅町（嵐電）徒歩5分 ― 京都駅から市バス50・101で約35分	カルチャー	屋根も装飾も野菜・穀物・種子だけで作る神輿。毎年一から作り直されます。
京都	時代祭 Jidai Matsuri	10月22日 12:00出発	丸太町（地下鉄烏丸線）― 京都駅から約7分	カルチャー	考証に基づく装束で約2,000人が行進。1,200年分の衣装史を時代の逆順にたどります。
京都	鞍馬の火祭 Kurama Fire Festival	10月22日 18:00頃〜	鞍馬（叡山電鉄）― 京都駅から約60分。終電を必ず確認	カルチャー／レジャー	最大5m・80kgの松明が一本道の集落を練り歩き、谷全体が燃えるように光ります。
北海道	さっぽろオータムフェスト Sapporo Autumn Fest	9月11日〜10月3日 10:00〜20:30	大通（地下鉄）直結 ― 札幌駅から約2分、新千歳空港から約37分	レジャー	国内最大級の食の祭典を23日間。大通公園の丁目ごとにテーマが異なります。
名古屋	名古屋まつり Nagoya Festival	10月17〜18日	久屋大通・栄（地下鉄）― 名古屋駅から約5分	カルチャー／レジャー	信長・秀吉・家康の三英傑が甲冑姿で登場。2026年は市内行列でなく公園内の特別企画です。
九州	長崎くんち Nagasaki Kunchi	10月7〜9日（毎年固定）	路面電車「諏訪神社前」― 長崎駅から約10分、博多から約1時間50分	カルチャー	龍踊と、その場で高速回転するオランダ船。日本唯一の開港地が育てた380年の祭り。
九州	唐津くんち Karatsu Kunchi	11月2〜4日（固定／見どころは3日）	唐津（JR筑肥線）― 博多駅から乗換なしで約1時間20分	カルチャー	ユネスコ無形文化遺産。1819〜1876年製の曳山14台を、数百人がかりで砂浜へ曳き込みます。
四国	徳島市 阿波おどり Tokushima Awa Odori	8月11〜15日（街なかは12〜15日）	徳島駅 徒歩10〜15分 ― 大阪から高速バスで約2時間30分	レジャー／カルチャー	本場かつ最大規模。4日間で踊り手10万人。「にわか連」なら旅行者も飛び入り参加できます。

現地でのご注意

•    現金をご用意ください。屋台のIC決済対応は増えましたが、小額紙幣と小銭で5,000〜10,000円あると安心です。

•    8月の祭りは気温33〜35℃・高湿度のなかで行われます。水分、塩分タブレット、タオル、帽子は必需品です。

•    祭り当日、最寄駅のコインロッカーは午前中に満杯になります。手荷物は最小限にするか、ホテルにお預けください。

•    花火の終了直後・行列の終了直後の電車は極度に混雑します。30〜45分待つほうが結果的に早く帰れます。

•    掲載中のすべての祭りでドローンの飛行は禁止です。路上会場では三脚も多くが制限・禁止されています。

•    航空券や宿泊の予約前に、必ず主催者の公式サイトで日程を再確認してください。
